Hugh Mackworth, Managing Partner of SmartForest Ventures, has 35 years of successful high-tech executive and management experience. In particular, Hugh has been chair of the Boards of iMove, Signacert, TechTracker, Attensa, the Board of Trustees of OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry), the Entrepreneur Foundation of the Northwest, and has been on the boards of SignaCert, TechTracker, the Software Association of Oregon, and the Technology Association of Oregon. He founded the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network's Portland Angel Network, a network of private investors, and the Angel Oregon Conference.
He formerly served as founding CEO of Digimarc Corporation (NASDAQ:DMRC), since named Oregon's fastest growing company. Before relocating from the Silicon Valley, Hugh was VP Sales and Marketing for GammaLink, a computer-based fax startup, was a marketing executive at 3Com Corporation when it was a startup, and worked in engineering, marketing and finance for Apple Computer before it went public. His academic background includes being a research assistant at Xerox PARC, and a BA in computer studies and an MBA, both from Stanford University.
Debi Coleman, Managing Partner of
SmartForest Ventures, was Chairman and CEO of Merix (NASDAQ: MERX) from its spin-off from Tektronix and IPO in 1994 through 2001. Previously, she was VP of Materials/Operations for Tektronix. From 1981 to 1992, Coleman held the positions of VP Operations, CFO, and VP Information Systems & Technology at Apple Computer.
Coleman holds a BA from Brown University, an MBA from Stanford University, and an honorary PhD in engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Coleman was named a Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute in 1997. She serves on the boards of Synopsys, Inc., Reply.com, Adherial, the Anita Borg Institute for Women & Technology, and the Girl Scouts of Oregon & SW Washington.

With 19 years of office-management experience, Catherine's career began in the advertising industry, working first for ad agencies and then as Administrator & Curator of the American Advertising Museum. Her background includes event planning, project management and accounts payable. She graduated with honors from the University of Portland with a B.A. in Communications and a minor in French.
